Video: Beaker Street – Clyde Clifford Interview – January 16, 2011

As most of us are aware, Clyde Clifford’s Beaker Street will cease to exist on Little Rock’s KKPT-FM 94.1 “The Point” after February 6, 2011. This radio program is an institution in Arkansas, dating back to 1966 when it began airing on KAAY-AM 1090.

This past Sunday night, Little Rock NPR affiliate KUAR-FM 89.1 conducted an interview with Clyde, aka Dale Seidenschwarz. He explains how radio has changed over the past several years, not necessarily for the better. Today’s tight corporate playlists are making it increasingly difficult for unique programs like Beaker Street to be heard on commercial radio outlets. This despite the fact that Beaker Street still enjoys a huge, loyal audience. There has been a huge outpouring of support for Clyde and his show these past weeks on Facebook and elsewhere online.

Rush Limbaugh: “Obama’s Katrina…That Damn Oil Slick!”

Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh predicted that the growing BP oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico will become “Obama’s Katrina.” This of course is in comparison to the political damage suffered by former president George W. Bush as a result of the federal government’s delayed response to Hurricane Katrina.

Rush stated that President Obama “does not have any desire to manage” and that Obama is “getting even with this country for all of it’s transgressions in the past.”

What do you think? Does this disaster have the potential to cast a major cloud (or in this case, a major oil slick) over Obama’s presidency as Katrina did over the presidency of George W. Bush?

Ray Stevens “We the People” aka “The ObamaCare Song” – Radio Friendly?

Remember Ray Stevens?  Who could forget 1962’s “Ahab the Arab” or “The Streak” in the spring of 1974?  At age 70, Ray’s back with “We the People”, also known as “The ObamaCare Song.”  Ray speaks his mind on the health care bill which recently passed Congress. This song is fast becoming the unofficial anthem of the Tea Party movement.

Will radio play this?  Is radio playing this?  I have yet to hear any stations in my area give this song airplay.  Is Ray Stevens’ “We the People” getting airplay on your local stations?

Should radio play this?  Or is it too political and controversial?  I’d like to hear your thoughts in the comment section below. Also, be sure to check out the rest of my site. On the list to your right, you’ll see about 280 classic radio clips from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s for your listening pleasure.
