WWRW-FM 103.3 Wisconsin Rapids WI Automated 1982

W103 was WFHR-1320’s sister station.  The format was automated CHR, typical of many small market FMs during this time period.  All I have on tape is this short clip of a partial commercial, followed by the “Double-U-One-Oh-Threeee” jingle, into “Only the Lonely” by the Motels.

This aircheck was received from Apple Valley, MN, using a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver, Winegard 10 element FM yagi antenna, Alliance U-100 “Tenna Rotor”, and Belden RG59 ultra low loss coaxial cable.  The recording was made to a Technics stereo cassette deck with a Scotch Dynarange tape.

The Jock heard on the short promo was Nick Roberts…….now long out of radio and working in the Milwaukee area.

WWRW(now classic rock WGLX) used Drake Chenault’s “Contempo 300” tape service which was actually an adult contemporary format. It sure was good to hear a bit of the station I would later work for thru most of the late 80s – early 90s!

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the info. It amazes me how I can post a clip of a relatively obscure small market station from 27 years ago…and within hours or a few days at the most, someone will comment or e-mail me with complete details about the station! This proves what I knew all along when I was growing up: “I’m not the only one in the world who’s into this stuff!” LOL!

I also grew up listening to WWRW/W103 and had the pleasure of later working there. A buddy and I have resurrected the station if only here in cyberspace complete with old ads and jingles. Feel free to check it out at the the following link. if anyone wants to add anything they have such as jingles and spots from WWRW…let me know.

    Hi Clint,

This clip is all I have of W103. Wish I had more. But considering the distance I was from their transmitter, I feel lucky to have anything at all. If you have audio you’d like to share, I’d love to post it and give you credit. Thanks for visiting!
