WSPT-FM 97.9 Stevens Point WI Music Show Promo 1982

Need music for your party?  Call the WSPT Traveling Music Show!  If you can identify the jock in this promo, please let me know!  98 WSPT was locked in a tight CHR race with WIFC at this time.  I wish I had more tape of this station.

Despite the fact that WSPT was only 50,000 watts from a short tower, I was able to pull them in from Apple Valley, MN, using a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver, Winegard 10 element FM yagi antenna, an Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor, and Belden RG59 ultra low loss coaxial cable.  The recording was made using a Technics stereo cassette deck and Scotch Dynarange 90 tape.

I believe the DJ in this air check is Joann Kavishan. I don’t think she used her last name on the air. I went to school with her sister and she was once married to my old college roommate. I don’t think she worked much in radio after WSPT, but I may be wrong on that.

AM-FM Simulcast with its AM sister station at 1010 kHz, becoming FM-only when WSPT-AM became WXYQ in the Fall of 1977, airing a Country Music Format. During the early , the station switched to a Mainstream Adult Contemporary format, branding itself as “Sunny 98”.
