“Central Oregon’s Hot FM” was Q94. I hosted afternoon drive on this station while Dennis Shaw aka “D. Shaw” or “The D-Man” did nights. D. was great for this shift because he had a very wry, somewhat warped sense of humor. You never knew what he would say or do next. He was a ski instructor during the day at nearby Mount Bachelor. At night, he would drive his 1940s Willys Jeep into town and “play radio” on the market’s only CHR outlet. Years later, D. owned and operated a successful restaurant in downtown Bend.
This recording was made from Madras, Oregon, using a Realistic AM/FM/CD/cassette portable stereo with built-in telescoping antenna. A Memorex dBS 90 minute tape captured this aircheck for us to enjoy, 24 years later!
