KAUS-FM 99.9 Austin Albert Lea Minnesota 1982-83

“FM 100 Country” was the dominant FM Country station in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa during this time.  KIAI “The Country Moose” in Mason City was still several years away from being built.  KWWK in Rochester was only 3,000 watts on 96.7 and hadn’t yet flipped to Country.  With 100,000 watts from the big KAAL-TV 6 tower, KAUS-FM enjoyed a signal that could be heard from just south of the Twin Cities to just north of Des Moines!

This aircheck clip contains two of the famous “FM 100 Country” jingles.  The first was recorded in November, 1982, using a Scotch Dynarange 90 tape.  The second has a bit more high end since it was recorded on a TDK SA90 tape in February of 1983.  Both were recorded from Apple Valley, MN, using a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver, Winegard 10 element FM yagi, Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor, Belden RG59 ultra low loss coax, and a Technics stereo cassette deck.
