CHMM-FM 97.5 Winnipeg Manitoba Canada Paul Palace 1983

Here’s another Winnipeg FM that I was able to hear by loosening the mast screws on Grandpa’s TV antenna and repositioning it from southeast to northeast! I believe CHMM was one of only five local FM stations in existence at the time. They played a variety mix of current hits and album cuts.

This was recorded from Michigan, North Dakota using a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo unit and “fringe” TV antenna. Source tape is a TDK D90.

    My brother used to work the night shift at CHMM and i was into the studio’s many times with him. The DJ is Paul Palace who worked shifts on CHMM and it’s sister station 68 CJOB(AM). Paul did news and on air.

    As an aside, 97.5’s sister station is an absolute signal monster in the daytime. On a good car radio, CJOB-AM 680 makes it all the way to Sioux Falls, South Dakota before co-channel interference from KFEQ-AM 680 in St. Joseph, Missouri starts to take over. That’s over 400 miles straight line!
